The proximate village Deyrqube
About 10 km in the east of Beth Qustan lies the beautiful village of Deyrqube. This village was destroyed seven times and rebuilt seven times in his history.
In the "year of sword" 10 syriac families lived here, who escaped in a timely manner into the the "tower of Hah". No inhabitant of Deyrqube was killed in that cruel year. These families stayed after the Genocide in Hah and didn't return to Deyrqube. The empty village fell into the hands of Kurds, including the old church of Mor Jacob of the 5th century.
Ablahad, a man from Midyat, caused the mayor of the village Beth Qustan, Marauge, to act. He persuaded the inhabitants of the village to buy Deyrqube. They decided that every family pay a certain amount. The decisive motive was the Christian beliefs, which reinforce the people to this act and kept them closer together. The population of Deyrkube consisted now primary of Kusnoye, but there were also families of other villages like Strako or Shahrkan, which was totally destroyed in the Genocide 1915.
Through Marauge's efforts Beth Qustan got in 1941 four other regions, which were settled by Kurds
In December 1995 the last two families had to give up the village because of the uneasiness between the Kurds and the Turkish army. They settled in the neighboring village of Beth Qustan, in hope that one day they will be able to return.
In January 1997 the village of Deyrqube had been burned by the army. The blaze destroyed their hopes of returning home. But after seven years the time of return was coming. The returning families had to build up new houses because the old ones were now burned down.
